NCMS Points of Pride

North Clayton Middle Magnet School's Points of Pride:

1. Partnership with Luck Stone

North Clayton Middle Magnet School has proudly partnered with Luck Stone to enhance our campus through the creation of a brand-new garden space in our courtyards. In addition to beautifying our school environment, Luck Stone has supported teacher appreciation efforts and provided meaningful opportunities for their staff to engage directly with our scholars through Career Day presentations and hands-on experiences through project based learning.

This partnership has strengthened community engagement while exposing students to career pathways and real-world industry connections. The garden space also supports our STEM and agriculture initiatives by giving scholars opportunities for hands-on learning focused on sustainability, environmental science, and teamwork.

2. Academic and STEM Competition Excellence

North Clayton Middle Magnet School scholars earned recognition across numerous academic and STEM competitions throughout the 2025–2026 school year. Students achieved 1st place honors in the Challenge 24 Mathematics Competition and demonstrated excellence with 1st place in the Flagway Competition while also earning 2nd and 3rd place awards in the District Dual Tech Drone and Robotics Challenge. Additional accomplishments included strong performances in the Hear Our Voices competition, Science Fair, and Social Studies Quiz Bowl. The school also celebrated double-digit gains on the Algebra End of Course (EOC) assessment, reflecting continued academic growth and achievement.

These accomplishments highlight North Clayton Middle Magnet School's commitment to academic excellence, STEM innovation, and student achievement across multiple disciplines. Participation and success in these competitions have increased scholar confidence, strengthened teamwork and problem-solving skills, and encouraged students to apply classroom learning in authentic and competitive environments. The continued academic growth and recognition demonstrate the school’s dedication to preparing scholars for success both inside and outside of the classroom.

3. STEM Leadership

North Clayton Middle Magnet School continues to strengthen its STEM culture through teachers and administrators successfully completing the STEM Endorsement Cohort through the Department of STEM and Innovation. Staff members engaged in professional learning experiences focused on STEM integration, Project-Based Learning (PBL), real-world problem solving, and innovative instructional practices that support student achievement across all content areas.

The completion of the STEM Endorsement program has increased teacher capacity to provide engaging, hands-on, and interdisciplinary learning experiences for scholars. As educators continue implementing innovative STEM strategies, students are benefiting from increased collaboration, critical thinking opportunities, and authentic learning experiences that prepare them for college, careers, and future leadership opportunities.

4. Lumi AI Pilot School Recognition

North Clayton Middle Magnet School was selected as a pilot school for LUMI AI Story, an innovative storytelling platform connected to Colin Kaepernick. Through this initiative, students used artificial intelligence and digital storytelling to create original stories and presentations, with one NCMS scholar, Boakye Tweneboa-Kodua, earning recognition as a school winner during the district showcase.

The Lumi AI experience expanded opportunities for scholars to develop creativity, communication, and digital literacy skills through emerging technology. Participation in the pilot program increased student engagement in storytelling while showcasing North Clayton Middle School Magnet as a leader in innovative STEM and technology integration.

5. Makerspace Makeover Grant Recipient

North Clayton Middle School Magnet was honored to be selected by the College Football Hall of Fame, the Peach Bowl Foundation, and the Chick-fil-A Foundation for a Makerspace Makeover grant. The initiative provided upgraded furniture, equipment, and innovative resources to enhance the school’s makerspace and expand hands-on STEM learning opportunities for scholars involved in coding, robotics, drones, and STEM competitions. During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, scholars proudly represented the school while teachers were celebrated with a Chick-fil-A appreciation lunch, and the Teacher of the Year received $1,000 in DonorsChoose funding to support classroom innovation.

The newly redesigned makerspace has expanded opportunities for creativity, collaboration, engineering, robotics, and problem-solving experiences for students. This investment has strengthened North Clayton Middle Magnet School's  STEM mission by providing scholars with innovative learning environments that prepare them for future careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The recognition and support from community partners, including Director of Athletics Gary Townsend, Area Superintendent Lonnie Farmer, and Principal Dr. Shakeria Chaney, further reinforced the school’s culture of excellence, appreciation, and innovation.
