Marcus Molden led the Team in the drone design process. Traveion Cook scored 57 points to begin the flight portion of the competition breaking the record in that category.
Drones have become an integral part of STEM education both inside and outside of the classroom, offering students hands-on experience in engineering, programming, and technology. Through competitions and projects, they not only learn technical skills but also develop problem solving abilities, creativity, and teamwork. Dr. Shakeria Chaney, the principal of North Clayton Middle School, is proud of the drone team’s legacy of unmatched skill and determination, soaring above the competition, proving once more that the sky’s the limit. As North Clayton Middle School transitions into whole school magnet, we are providing these opportunities to our scholars. The coach, Dr. Leavernard Jones Jr. is so proud of this wonderful drone team.
2. NCMS visits Google Atlanta
Georgia Tech, in collaboration with Google Atlanta extended an invitation to our scholars for their annual BreakBeatCode Hackathon. Google’s cutting-edge facility opened its doors for our scholars to learn to create music with code using Earsketch, a free education programming environment developed first at Georgia Tech. The students are guided through the basics of coding and music theory to create their own unique compositions using Python and JavaScript.
Through our innovative use of technology, our scholars have been empowered to unlock their creativity and explore new horizons in music and coding.
3. NCMS Wins International Bright Spark Invention Competition
North Clayton Middle scholars were acknowledged as the finalist winners in the categories of “Best Overall” and “The People’s Choice Award” in the International Bridge Innovate 2023 Invention Challenge this year. North Clayton Middle School students Adom Tweneboah, Keziah Adade, Melanie Montero, Traveion Cook, Keon Finney, Koumba Cisse, Javion Harris, Serigne Babou, submitted a solution to this year’s design challenge focused on natural disaster recovery advised by Magnet Specialist, Brittney Blackwell. The challenge encouraged students to select a natural disaster and develop a service or product that enables the people impacted by natural disasters to recover physically and emotionally. Our scholar’s design created a product known as “The Turbo Vac” to use after disaster recovery which function is to collect water and dry the ground using a motorized fan while also filtering through a system in the vac.
The competition has allowed scholars to build design skills such as empathy, creative problem-solving, prototyping, and pitching.

5. The Tiger Nation Wins the "Gamechanger" CCPS Builder 2023-24 Award
North Clayton Middle School has consistently demonstrated unparalleled commitment to foster a vibrant and enthusiastic school community. This work is evidenced by our social media presence, alumni engagement, and attendance at events. Our social media platforms are vibrant hubs that share our academic and sporting achievements that reach a wide audience and further solidify our reputation as a proud institute. Whether it's a football game or school choice fair, our students and faculty come together in full force showcasing their unwavering support and pride for our school. We have changed the game and developed initiatives that significantly impact our scholars, teachers, staff and families through opportunities in and out of school. We began this journey in 2017 when our leadership team created our mantra as “Gamechangers” of the 30349. Some of those initiatives include the integration of STEM enrichment courses and extracurricular activities. The programs include our drone, robotics and coding teams. Prior to virtual learning, we were able to also strategically plan and implement an intervention block through master scheduling to intentionally target deficits in all content areas. NCMS also takes extreme pride in honoring our scholars at the end of their 8th grade year by providing a full week of events and experiences leading up to our moving on ceremony. Our scholars receive honor cords from all their hard work they have done through our various clubs and organizations to get acclimated to the experience you would in high school. Additionally, select scholars have the opportunity to take high school level courses to obtain credits that enable them to begin high school with 4 full credits to potentially graduate early.
Our alumni remain deeply connected to the school community and are a testament to the lasting impact of the strong sense of belonging at our school.
